J.P.
brings a broad range of business experience in law, accounting, finance and
operations to his role with Kern Whelan Capital. Immediately prior to
joining Kern Whelan Capital, J.P. oversaw finance and capital
markets for Prosper Marketplace, the first online credit person-to-person
auction marketplace.
J.P. previously worked in the mergers and acquisitions
group of JPMorgan (and Hambrecht & Quist, a predecessor entity), where
he focused primarily on retail and technology companies. During his banking
career J.P. advised on over 25 closed M&A transactions, comprising
close to $10 billion in transaction volume, including carve-outs from
Lucent, Tekelec and Fujitsu, the sale of CamelBak to Bear Stearns Merchant
Banking, the NetIQ/Mission critical merger, Mercury Interactive's
acquisition of Kintana, Legato's acquisition of OTG Software, ZDNet's sale
to Cnet, the sale of Evite to Ticketmaster, and the Motorola/SMIC
semiconductor transaction (one of the first cross border transactions of
its kind in China).
Prior to his career as an investment banker, J.P.
advised technology companies as a specialist in M&A structuring and due
diligence at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
J.P. serves on the boards of Shopatron, Visio Limited,
and The One Fifty Parker Avenue School, and acts as a board observer for SFL Data
and The C.E. Sundberg Company. He previously served on the board of Backcountry,
an online retailer of outdoor gear, until its acquisition by Liberty Media.
J.P. earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law
School, and a B.A. and an M.A. from Stanford University.
He lives with his wife and two children in San Francisco, and enjoys creative
writing and old-house restoration in his spare time.
